Google Automation with Python Program

The Google Automation with Python alumni program provides NPower Canada graduates with continued upskilling for job placement, retention and career laddering in the information technology field.This program equips NPower Canada graduates with in-demand skills in Python programming, automation and Cloud configuration. Learning outcomes include:

Python Programming, Git, Linux and Interaction with Operating Systems

  • Learn how to write simple Python programs to solve complex programming challenges.
  • Write programs to log errors and generate summary files.
  • Gain skills in Linux, Bash scripting, regular expressions and automated testing.
  • Apply Python and Linux to real-world troubleshooting and debugging scenarios.
  • Learn fundamentals of Git and GitHub.

Configuration Management and the Cloud

  • Learn configuration management for computers at scale using Puppet.
  • Learn how to automate computer deployment, updates and maintenance.
  • Gain applied knowledge of managing and troubleshooting virtual machines in the Cloud.
  • Expand automation skills for using Cloud to scale infrastructure.
  • Learn best practices for selecting and managing vendors and services.

Automating Real-World Tasks with Python

  • Learn how to leverage external Python modules to expand code capabilities.
  • Utilize Python Image Library (PIL) to create and modify images.
  • Send messages across networks to APIs offered by other programs.
  • Learn how to design and implement practical automated solutions for e-mail management and other core tasks.

Graduates will secure roles such as:

  • QA Specialist

Delivery Method:

Blended learning model, primarily delivered online, supplemented by virtual or in-person labs, study groups and career coaching.


  • Our upcoming cohort will run from Monday, June 7, 2021 to Friday, October 15, 2021
  • Orientation is happening on the week of Monday, May 31, 2021
  • Participants are asked to be available for two 2 hour classes per week. The course schedule will be announced in late May, with flexible time slots available.
  • Weekly commitment of 21 hours


The Google Automation with Python Alumni Program is considered an advanced program - you must be a NPower Canada graduate.

Who you are:

  • Graduate of any NPower Canada program
  • Have not previously graduated from an NPower Canada Alumni Education Program
  • A Greater Toronto Area, Halifax or Calgary area resident
  • A weekly commitment of 21 hours
  • Demonstrated Interest in coding
  • Have a strong motivation to work and learn
  • Be 30 years or younger as of the program start date for the June 2021 cohort.

Admissions Process:

  1. Fill in and submit an application form below. Please be sure to apply with the email address, first name, and last name that you have previously registered with at NPower Canada. If you do not recall these, you may still submit your application, and we will contact you for any pending information.
  2. Eligible applicants will be considered for Boot Camp, which is composed of three parts:
    • Bridging course: This preparatory course will give you foundational knowledge for Python, and can be completed on your own entirely on Coursera.
    • Successful completion of Orientation during the week of May 31.
    • Successful completion of Week #1 of class during the week of June 7.
  3. Once all admissions steps have been completed, a final admission decision will be communicated. Please note that the Admissions process for Alumni programs is separate and different from our youth programs.
