ReNEW – Tech Reskilling Program

The ReNEW – Tech Reskilling Program is a Skills Advance Ontario program, generously funded by Employment Ontario, to equip Ontario incumbent workers with in-demand skills for Junior IT Analyst roles.

This program upskills Ontario incumbent workers in high-demand tech skills for Junior IT Analyst roles. Training for incumbent workers will be designed in consultation with their employer. Participants will earn the Google IT Support Fundamentals certification, including the following learning outcomes:

User Support, Networking and Cloud Fundamentals

  • Learn how to provide clients with a superior end-to-end service experience.
  • Gain applied knowledge of hardware, software and operating system (Windows, Linux, Chrome OS) configuration, installation and troubleshooting.
  • Learn computer network models, TCP/IP protocols and DNS and DHCP services.
  • Understand cloud computing and storage.

Systems Administration, Cloud Infrastructure and IT Service Management

  • Learn cloud infrastructure setup and resource management.
  • Become proficient in Active Directory and OpenLDAP to manage computer assets.
  • Gain knowledge of data back-up implementation and disaster recovery planning.
  • Learn best practices for selecting and managing vendors and services.

IT and Network Security

  • Learn the three As of information security – authentication, authorization and accounting.
  • Become familiar with encryption algorithms and techniques.
  • Gain knowledge of network security solutions, ranging from firewalls to Wifi encryption.
  • Learn how to evaluate potential risks and recommend ways to reduce risk.

Graduates will secure roles such as:

  • Junior IT Analyst
  • Help Desk Specialist
  • Service Technician

  • Customer Care Agent
  • Project Analyst
  • Junior Systems Administrator

Delivery Method:

Blended learning model, primarily delivered online, supplemented by virtual or in-person labs, study groups and career coaching.

Timeline:

  • Next cohort begins: October 1, 2020.
  • 15 weeks in length, 20 hours per week commitment (Monday – Friday)

Eligibility:

The ReNEW Program is a Skills Advance Ontario Program.

Who you are:

  • Under-employed in precarious work or work that is at risk due to automation
  • A demonstrated independent interest in technology

Admission Requirements:

  • Greater Toronto Area resident
  • Age 30+
  • Minimum education – high school diploma or GED, earned inside or outside of Canada
  • Advanced English language proficiency – Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of 7/8 or higher in speaking, listening, reading and writing.
  • Valid SIN/Work Permit – work permit must be valid for at least one year after program start
  • Successful completion of program assessment, which will determine the NPower Canada program best aligned with your skills, knowledge and goals.
  • Strong, demonstrated motivation to work and learn.

Admissions Process:

  1. Email admissions@npowercanada.ca – include your first and last name, contact information (email and phone number), the name of the program you are interested in, and your current role/employment status.
  2. Eligible applicants will be invited to complete the mandatory Program Assessment.
  3. Program participants are required to attend an info session. Once they attend the mandatory information session, a final admission decision will be communicated to them.
