Family Resource Centers (FRCs) provide community-based programs and services that support the healthy development and well-being of children and youth by strengthening families and communities.

Employment & Training

Skills Canada – Nova Scotia (SCNS) is a non-profit organization that provides youth with the opportunity to explore careers in skilled trades and technologies.
Easter Seals Nova Scotia has been at the forefront of providing services and programs to individuals with disabilities for over 88 years.
SkillsonlineNS is a partnership between Nova Scotia’s Department of Labour and Advanced Education, CBDC & Bluedrop that gives every resident of the province access to thousands of FREE online courses on the most important workplace topics to improve their skills and career prospects.
Since 2003 the Employment Development Centre has provided employment enhancement services to unemployed individuals facing multiple barriers to employment in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.
Futureworx offers short-term (30 +hours) to longer-term (2 to 6 months) training programs to assist unemployed individuals who have had difficulty successfully participating in today’s labour force.

Nova Scotia Works is a one-stop job search and career planning resource with over 50 locations. Complete an intake online and get started with a Case Manager dedicated to helping you find employment & other resources.

ISANS offers a variety of Employment & Bridging programs for skilled newcomers, as well as generalized employment & career planning resources. Complete an intake to get started.

Essential Services

Feed Nova Scotia’s mission is to increase food security through food distribution, education and collaboration.
Housing Nova Scotia offers programs to help lower income households rent and maintain safe and affordable housing.
Housing Support Workers help individuals in the Halifax & Dartmouth area secure housing. The level of support depends on the client.
Shelter Nova Scotia owns and operates two emergency shelters, providing beds to 47 individuals each night. Their services are based on Harm Reduction and Housing First principles.

Finances

Support for individuals, families, seniors, businesses and municipalities facing hardship because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Income Assistance (IA) program helps you when you are not able to support yourself or your family. Depending on your situation, you may get money for your basic needs or help with other special needs.

Indigenous Youth Services

The Native Council of Nova Scotia is the self-governing authority for the large community of Mi’kmaq/Aboriginal peoples residing off-reserve in Nova Scotia throughout traditional Mi’kmaq territory.
