Ekeng – Ontario – Junior IT Analyst – 2021 Graduate
Before joining NPower Canada, Ekeng was working in retail customer support and struggling to break into the tech industry. Although he had the education and interest in technology, navigating the Canadian job market felt overwhelming. His biggest challenge wasn’t technical ability but understanding how to position his background in a way that resonated with local employers.
Motivated to move beyond retail and build a career that matched his potential, Ekeng applied to NPower Canada’s Junior IT Analyst Program in 2021. He was looking for a bridge into the tech sector and a program that understood the challenges of starting fresh in the Canadian workforce.
During the program, Ekeng found the sense of community especially impactful. The professional development and mock interview sessions stood out, helping him better understand the hiring process and how to present himself with confidence. Through this support, he gained clarity on networking, resume tailoring, and the “unspoken rules” of the job search.
After graduating in 2021, Ekeng secured his first role at Accenture through NPower Canada’s partnership network, initially working in Game Development. The program helped prepare him to meet the expectations of a global consulting firm and successfully transition into the tech industry.
Today, Ekeng lives in Vancouver and works as a Consultant at Accenture Canada, supporting the implementation of Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems within the Canadian healthcare sector. His work helps modernize healthcare delivery by ensuring patient data is secure and accessible, contributing to improved health outcomes nationwide.
Reflecting on his experience, Ekeng encourages future applicants to fully embrace the program. “Don’t overlook soft skills training,” he says. “The technical certifications matter but knowing how to navigate the job market is what gets you hired.”
Ekeng’s journey is a testament to what’s possible when talent is met with the right support. Through NPower Canada, he was able to turn uncertainty into opportunity and build a career that continues to grow while making a meaningful impact in Canada’s healthcare system.
