Kenneth – Junior Data Analyst – British Columbia – January 2022
Kenneth came to Canada from the Philippines as a recent graduate, with little work experience. He had studied Engineering and IT, but without the hands-on experience, he struggled to find a job.
Wanting to help his family, Kenneth took a survival job in customer service. He worked hard and was promoted quickly, but his passion was for tech. After a couple years of trying to find a path that would help him break into the field, WorkBC told him about NPower Canada. He applied to our Junior Data Analyst program.
“I applied to NPower Canada’s Junior Data Analyst program because it was the perfect opportunity for me to restart my career as a Data or Business Analyst here in Canada,” Kenneth said.
Although nervous at first, Kenneth quickly buckled down and brushed up on his technical skills. He enjoyed the camaraderie between himself and his peers, and tried to soak up all the knowledge shared by program instructors. He excelled during the program and was asked to speak at graduation.
“With NPower Canada’s guidance and support, I was able to have a better understanding of Canada’s work culture. I was also able to develop and implement strategies for job searching, resumes, LinkedIn, and interviews. Overall, I became more confident because I was able to develop my technical, personal and professional skills with NPower Canada’s help.”
At graduation, he received Hootsuite’s Above and Beyond Leader Award because Kenneth always found time to help out his peers, and always with a smile on his face. His positive demeanor and work ethic was evident to us all – and is now applied in his new role, as a Junior Technical Instructor at NPower Canada. He is thankful to be able to guide and inspire participants, just like his instructors did for him.
When asked what he would tell someone considering the program, Kenneth shared:
“Grab the opportunity. Based on my experience, I have never seen the kind of support NPower Canada provides from anywhere else.”
