Alpha V . – British Columbia – Junior Data Analyst – September 2022 Graduate
When Alpha heard about NPower Canada on the radio, he wasn’t sure whether it was the right fit for him. Prior to the pandemic, Alpha had been a professional dancer, but COVID-19 had disrupted the industry. Alpha was hesitant to start a new career in tech, not knowing if he would be successful, but he was eager to get into a sustainable industry.
While Alpha initially applied to our Junior IT Analyst program, our Admission Specialist could see that he had some technical knowledge and skills, and suggested that he enroll in our Junior Data Analyst program. Alpha was intimidated by the intermediate program, but with encouragement from NPower Canada, he applied.
Alpha thrived in the Junior Data Analyst program. “After each lecture, I studied more, because I wanted to commit to making a meaningful change in my life,” Alpha said. He learned new concepts quickly and was able to take his certifications earlier than expected, which left him time to practice his coding skills, as he did not have much experience in programming. “Weeks passed, and my confidence grew. I was improving my skills, had a positive outlook on my growth, and was even more determined to make a meaningful change in my life,” Alpha said.
Recognizing his leadership skills, NPower Canada selected Alpha as British Columbia’s graduate speaker at our national graduation ceremony in September, where he shared that he had successfully landed a job: “I am incredibly proud to say that, without a tech background, I was hired as a full time Junior Web Developer at the Hockey Shop. How Canadian is that?”
“I can confidently say that I owe this success to NPower Canada. The staff guided me by improving my knowledge, accountability, discipline, grit, and confidence. I am on a new journey as a developer, and I am not alone. I have my family, friends, mentor, and NPower Canada to guide me along my way,” Alpha shared.
We are incredibly proud of Alpha’s growth and are excited to see what he does next. Check out his graduation speech in this video.
