Jacob S. – Nova Scotia – Junior IT Analyst – December 2021 Graduate
As a young father, Jacob was searching for a career in a field with opportunities for growth so that he would always be able to support his child. The jobs he had previously had very little room for growth or career advancement, and Jacob wanted more for himself and his family.
Jacob began to develop an interest in IT, a growing field with a diverse range of roles. Although Jacob wanted to enroll in post-secondary, due to the recent birth of his first child and high living costs in Nova Scotia, that path wasn’t available to him. When Jacob’s sister told him about NPower Canada, he was excited to learn there was an alternative way to reach his goals.
Jacob was engaged, motivated, and a hard worker throughout the 15-week NPower Canada program. Alongside the tech training, Jacob said NPower Canada “helped me to edit my resume to make it more appealing, helped me write cover letters, and provided job-search support.” Jacob was able to land a job with Eastlink immediately after graduating.
When asked what advice Jacob would give to others considering NPower Canada, Jacob said:
“Join as soon as you can to help push your career to the next level. It’s not a long course and the support you get while in the program and as an alumni is worth every second.”
