Steven Y. – Ontario – Junior IT Analyst – 2023
Steven arrived in Canada in 2022, from China, hoping to land a job in the tech industry. He faced barriers to finding relevant work due to his lack of Canadian experience.
Before joining NPower Canada, Steven struggled to transition from the food and beverage sector to the tech industry. Despite his experience in data analysis and franchise operation in Hong Kong and China, he faced challenges when it came to finding tech-related job opportunities in Canada. “Employers preferred candidates with specific tech qualifications and local experience that my background did not fully match,” said Steven.
When he learned about NPower Canada, Steven immediately applied. He looked forward to having his opportunities in the tech field open up. “The program had a huge impact on my life. It provided me with crucial IT skills that boosted my confidence,” Steven reflected. “It helped me get through tech related challenges and my career potential grew.”
When asked what his dream job was, Steven said, “I want to start my own automation company in North America, and NPower Canada gave me the industry knowledge I needed.”
Shortly after he graduated from the Junior IT Analyst program, Steven found his first tech role as an Automation Specialist at Maple Study Link Inc., applying the skills he learned from NPower Canada.
