Alejandra – Alberta – Junior IT Analyst – 2023 Graduate
After immigrating to Canada from Colombia, Alejandra found herself navigating an unfamiliar job market while working survival jobs – bartending, retail, kitchen work – none of which reflected her ambitions or her potential. Like many newcomers, she ran into the same barrier: without Canadian experience, breaking into a meaningful career felt out of reach.
Technology had always sparked her curiosity, but she had never found the right entry point. That changed when she discovered NPower Canada at a job fair in Calgary. The Junior IT Analyst program offered exactly what she needed: structured technical training, Canadian industry exposure, and real support for her job search. She enrolled in the JITA program in February 2023.
From the start, the program delivered more than she expected. The technical curriculum was hands-on and career-focused, but what stood out most was the community. As a newcomer who had relocated to Calgary without much of a local network, Alejandra found herself part of a cohort that was motivated, supportive, and going through the same journey. She came in looking for skills; she left with both skills and genuine friendships.
When she graduated in June 2023, NPower Canada’s recruitment support connected her directly with Long View Systems, a long-time NPower Canada partner and one of Canada’s leading IT companies. Long View Systems has been a partner since 2019, starting locally in Calgary before expanding to a national partnership, and has hired 109 NPower Canada alumni to date – 10 of whom have since been promoted internally. Alejandra is one of them.
She was hired as a System Consultant in August 2023, just two months after completing the program. Her growth at Long View Systems has been steady and swift. After ten months on contract, she was converted to a permanent full-time role. A year later, she was promoted to Deskside Support. In under three years, she has held three positions at the same company, each one a step forward. Long View Systems’ internal career development program, the CLP, played a significant role in that trajectory, giving her the tools, coaching, and structure to actively plan her professional growth.
Today, Alejandra is settled in Calgary, a city she chose and that has given back in return. She has built a community of friends, many of them connected to her NPower Canada cohort. She has been able to bring her mother and niece to Canada. She has a stable career, a clear path forward, and roots she did not have just a few years ago.
Her message to anyone considering the program is simple: apply! NPower Canada gives you more than training; it gives you a real way into the Canadian job market. Show up, do the work, and take full advantage of the connections the program opens. For Alejandra, that’s exactly what made the difference.
